About Maarten
Maarten Combrink (2000) is a Dutch jazz trombonist and composer. Since 2025 he is the solo-trombonist of the renowned Metropole Orkest. He gained recognition as a soloist after winning the ITA J.J. Johnson and Carl Fontana Jazz Trombone Competitions in the USA.
As a musical chameleon, he is a member of a wide range of different ensembles, including the Jasper Blom Bigband, Peter Beets New Jazz Orchestra, All Ellington, Spinoza Orkest, Grachtenfestival Ensemble, Los Melomanos, Gerardo Rosales y La Vintage, Huize Lucas and BvR Flamenco Big Band.
As a composer, he leads the Maarten Combrink Quintet, which is set to release its debut album in February 2026.
Maarten also played/recorded with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Dutch Swing College Band, Son Bent Braam, New Trombone Collective, Paradox Jazz Orchestra, New Cool Collective, Cubop City Big Band and New Composers Pool.
Maarten studied at the conservatories of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, recently completing his master’s degree with the highest possible distinction.
